Electro-mechanical power steering assists the driver when steering.
The degree of power assistance is adapted electronically, depending on the speed.
Warning/indicator lamps and driver messages
Do not drive Audi A6: steering defective
If the warning lamp lights up permanently and the message appears, there may be a power steering failure.
Stop the Audi A6 in a safe place as soon as possible. Do NOT drive on. Obtain professional assistance.
Steering: system fault. You can continue driving
If the indicator lamp lights up and the message appears, the steering response may be heavier or lighter than usual. In addition, it is possible that the steering wheel will be off centre when driving in a straight line.
Drive slowly to a qualified workshop and have the fault rectified.
Dynamic steering: initialising
If the indicator lamp flashes and the message appears, the dynamic steering* is being initialised. The steering wheel will move slightly after the engine is started. The dynamic steering may be initialised if the steering wheel was moved while the Audi A6 was stopped. The indicator lamp will go out when the initialisation has been completed.
Note
  • You can drive on if the warning/indicator lamp or lights up only briefly.
  • The stabilisation functions of the dynamic steering* Link are not available in the event of a system malfunction.
  • For further information on the dynamic steering refer to Link.
